The Legend of William Oh: sacrifices and Resourceful Climber explained
The Legend of William Oh · Updated 2026-10-18
Royal Road opening chapters 1–5 only. Contains spoilers for the first Class Trial, including Will's injury and initial ability choices. Checked 18 October 2026; no later-series build is claimed.
Will's first class is Resourceful Climber. Understanding it starts with the three sacrifices that actually reach the Class Creation Room, rather than the combination he intended to bring. [4] [5]

What does a sacrifice do?
Sacrifices influence the abilities and growth available when an aspirant acquires a class. The opening hunt makes this concrete: a Jumper contributes leg-related possibilities, while the Wetlands Gulper offers a different range. Hunting a valuable monster can also finance a different sacrifice; Will and Ben discuss selling their catch rather than necessarily using it themselves.
In Chapter 2, Will buys a Spirit Turtle after hearing the case for surviving long enough to benefit from his build. Its advertised contribution is defensive. The merchant describes Uru Drake as exceptionally valuable, but explicitly does not guarantee that it will grant Teleport. An advertised possibility is not an ability Will has already obtained.
Which three sacrifices form Will's class?
The intended plan breaks down in Chapter 3. After the group captures a Will-o-wisp, Ben pushes Will into the Trial and the satchel splits. In Chapter 4, Will has the Uru Drake scale, but the Spirit Turtle and Will-o-wisp are outside the room.
The room requires three successful offerings. Will salvages the satchel's leather, which produces a Gravity Goat seed, and offers the scale, which the system identifies as Uru Drake Primogenitor. His own left hand becomes the third successful sacrifice. This is the combination behind the opening build; listing the turtle or wisp as part of that completed combination confuses his plan with what happened.
The failed attempts matter too: the altar says poorly preserved or mixed offerings have a reduced chance of producing a seed. For the single leather offering, the system retries seed generation before succeeding, while other improvised offerings fail. This scene does not establish that any scrap of material reliably works.
What is Resourceful Climber, and what does Will choose?
Chapter 5 identifies the resulting class as Resourceful Climber at Level 1. Its description emphasizes tools, Meta Relics, endurance and mobility, with smaller Earth and Spacetime elements. Here, climbing is part of the class's practical focus, rather than merely the general name for a Tower adventurer.
Will chooses Phantom Hand and Aspect of the Goat as his two primary abilities. At this stage Phantom Hand passes through physical objects; its dimensional storage is tiny and costs one Charge. Aspect of the Goat supports survival and movement on difficult terrain. The other options shown on his menu are choices he considers, not additional primaries he simultaneously selects. The chapter explains that the first two selections receive the most development over time.

Where to read these scenes
Use Chapters 1–2 for the hunt and planned purchases, Chapter 3 for the betrayal, Chapter 4 for the actual offerings, and Chapter 5 for the class and primary selections. The author's Royal Road page currently retains those five opening chapters and links Books 1–4 on Amazon. Its later table of contents is discontinuous: an author-written Book 1 summary is followed by Chapter 201, so the remaining free entries are not a complete start-to-finish edition.
