Bog Standard Isekai reading order, Brin's classes and Royal Road chapters

Bog Standard Isekai · Updated 2026-10-18

Published-book navigation and publisher-blurb class milestones, checked 18 October 2026. Class section contains promotional spoilers through Book 3. This is not a complete progression table or a current-level claim.

Read the published books in numbered order: Scarred, Illusionist, Nightmares, Benighted, then Warbound. The Royal Road listing currently retains the opening sample and Book 6; it does not provide an uninterrupted replacement for Books 1–5. [1] [3]

Which book comes next?

Shadow Alley Press lists the sequence as Book 1: Scarred; Book 2: Illusionist; Book 3: Nightmares; Book 4: Benighted; and Book 5: Warbound. Use both the series name and the subtitle when finding the next volume: the word Illusionist also appears elsewhere in the publisher's catalog.

Warbound is the fifth published book in the checked publisher list, released on 18 August 2026 in both its book and audiobook editions. The publisher provides separate Kindle, paperback and Audible links on the volume page. Those are different formats of Book 5, rather than three additional entries in the reading sequence.

Why are Royal Road chapters missing?

The author's Royal Road listing is marked STUB. In this listing, the practical consequence is visible in the table of contents: Book 1 Chapters 1–5 remain, followed by extras and the Book 6 entries. The next surviving row is not necessarily the next part of the story. A new reader should start with Scarred rather than treating Book 6 Chapter 1 as the continuation of the free opening sample.

Royal Road's labels include the book number and the chapter within that book. Preserve both when sharing a location: Book 6, Chapter 12 is more useful than Chapter 12 alone. The table also includes interludes and a Chapter 21.5, so counting visible rows is not a dependable way to recover a book's chapter number.

What can be confirmed about Brin's early classes?

The publisher's description for Illusionist, Book 2, says Brin has exchanged an evil Rare Class for the common Glasser class. That confirms the class described at that stage; the volume's subtitle alone would give the wrong impression if treated as a complete snapshot of his opening status.

The description for Nightmares, Book 3, explicitly refers to Brin developing his Illusionist class and new skills. These are two useful book-level markers. They do not identify every intermediate level, the exact chapter of a transition, or his later class and abilities. For a precise progression lookup, match a claimed milestone to its actual book and passage.

Where do the later books lead?

In his Book 4 release message, Miles English describes Benighted as the point where Brin's long training foundation opens into larger conflicts and war. His Book 5 release message identifies Warbound as the next escalation, while the Royal Road Book 6 table shows that serialization has continued beyond that published volume. A Book 6 serial entry should therefore be labeled as serial material, rather than automatically advertised as an available sixth commercial book.
